The ethos of Forest School is to to encourage children to explore with their own ideas and imagination. Most activities are child led to allow the children to investigate and problem solve. Forest School sessions are inclusive and the learning at Forest School enables emotional, social and behavioural development.
The children carry out activities in groups, pairs and on their own. They can play hide and seek, build dens, make mud sculptures/faces, go bug hunting, collect and sort natural items, investigate the weather, make paints from natural resources and paint pictures, use tools, tell stories, sing songs and much more, all of which contribute to a healthy lifestyle and knowledge about the environment. Children need time to explore their feelings, thoughts and relationships and at Forest School they have time to do this.
At Bentfield Primary School we have an amazing wooded area within our school grounds which contains a diverse range of trees, some many hundreds of years old. This enables us to provide opportunities for all pupils, across all all three key stages, to take part in Forest Schools sessions throughout the year.
