Pupils who have their 5th birthday during the academic year (1st September-31st August) are admitted to Bentfield reception, which forms part of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). In the EYFS we aim to provide a secure, friendly, stimulating environment where your child will develop self-confidence and self-esteem. Through play, chldren learn and come to a greater understanding of the world about them. Opportunities for many different kinds of learning are available both indoors and outside which take into account children's interests and achievements and their developing physical, intellectual, emotional and social abilities.
All children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. There are three prime areas of learning and development- Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language. There are also four specific areas of learning- Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design. These areas of learning are all underpinned by the Characteristics of Effective Learning- Engagement, Motivation and Thinking.
